User Experience and Web Design in a Technology Driven World

Web design and user experience often go hand in hand. With everything moving towards the Internet and technology changing at a rapid speed, a brand must stay up to date with the latest trends and technology when it comes to updating their online presence.

Web Design

As everything is moving towards technology, having an up to date, well designed website is a must for many brands. And that starts with knowing the basics of web design. If designing a website for a corporate brand, one must know the official graphical design standards. These design standards can pertain to logos, cultural implications based on color, and even brochures and website design standards themselves. Images are also important in terms of website design, as aesthetics often attract users to a website. When using images on a website however, one must be sure to avoid copyright issues, which can be done by obtaining free images from reputable sources, researching the image(s) before using them, or even taking the pictures yourself. In addition, the images used should always be of high quality; by using a Vector file type one can be sure of that because Vector uses algorithms that do not distort photos. And last, but not least consistency is key. The color-coding, tonality in the texts, and the theme of the website should all be consistent with each other. Adobe capture is a great tool to help keep the colors consistent on your website, there is a tool in the app which allows one to create a powerful color palette, which can be used when designing a website. Now the real question is, what is the best way my website should look?

It Depends….

A website must be optimized for its primary target audience. Therefore, one should focus on the user to answer questions such as what are their needs and wants, why are they coming to your website, and what are their capabilities? For example, a 16 year old female and a 78 year old male will not be looking for the same things on a website. From their product choices to their ability to navigate the site effectively their needs will vary. A 16 year old may be more tech-savvy than a 78 year old, however that does not mean that the 78 year old would opt out of using a website as everything is moving towards technology. If catering towards a 78 year old, the use of more text and explanations would appeal to their age range as more information is provided, the more they will be willing to buy the product. While on the other hand, many pictures would work well for a website trying to sell products to a 16 year old. In the end, one must focus solely on the consumer to decide what their best course of action is in regards to creating a seamless website.

  1. Hi Ami,

This was very well written and contains great content! I agree that the website should be optimized for the primary target market. Appealing to the right audience can significantly increase traffic to the website. Also taking age into consideration is essential because it can give great insight for website design.
