Creating a website is an essential when owning a company or brand in this day and age. Making sure your website is modern and useful will help achieve your goals quickly and efficiently. Here are four important elements to keep in mind while creating your website:
1. Consistency
A way to get customers to trust your website and company is through consistency. This means that each page of the website should all be in the same (or similar) format. The typography should be the same throughout the entire website as well as the tone of language. It would be very choppy if some parts of the website were setting an upbeat tone while the other parts were dry. Consistent color schemes and logos are also super important as they are what differentiates your brand from other companies.
2. Less is more
Simple websites are often more user friendly which helps with the desired outcome of your website or company. The more options that are put onto a website, the more complicated things get for the customer. It is super important to have your message loud and clear from the start to generated your desired outcome(s). Get rid of any information that is essentially “fluff” and either replace it with an image, or make use of the white space on your website! White space gives the appearance of a nicely organized website, and makes it look professional.
3. Aesthetics
Appearances say a lot about your company. Aesthetics of your website will set the tone for the rest of the users experience so chose it wisely. Colors elicit emotional responses, so pick your color scheme depending on what response you would like from the customer. Warm tones bring excitement, while cool tones are more relaxing. Color palettes should include contrasting colors, but nothing too distracting. Bold colors are best for call to action buttons or other items you would like to stand out. Fonts are also important elements of your website. The font can set the tone for customers, is your website professional or is it playful? The font you chose can differentiate between that. Chose your aesthetics wisely, but remember – keep them consistent.
4. User Experience
Now that we have talked about apperances, lets talk about how your website works. This is the most important part of creating a website because if it is not user friendly, then its useless. Keep in mind your audiences needs and your goals when designing your website. Make call to action buttons loud and clear, keep the information you use short and sweet. Get your point across. Have multiple users test our your site before launch. This will help give you feedback on the accessibility of your site and where to make changes. This should be done routinely to keep your site up to date.
Hi Raeann, love your post! I specifically like the way you chose to format your information. It seems to be a way better method than my just writing all my information in paragraph format. I hope you don’t mind if I steal a little of your creativity with this next blog post. Its really no wonder that your portion on aesthetics is so well written; particularly in your explaining the color choices that a web designer has to sift through. I hadn’t considered using warmer or cooler colors to dictate the tone of the website, much like how you explained the same effect happening with chosen fonts. With the way you flowed through the information and made a complex topic feel so simple makes me wonder if you’ve ever designed a website before.
Your post is nicely organized and easy to read. I like the cleanliness of the post and your writing is concise.
Loved your post! It is very well organized and clean, and it presents the information and importance of elements in a way that the reader grasps the information quickly. I liked how you bolded the titles and highlighted key aspects.
