Not that this blog is effectively constructed, but the art of effective website design is still to be appreciated. Rather than hacks or tricks, consider these facts when crafting your brand's website!
1. Visibility - Text sizing, color choices, image sizes, website layout, functional links and more require careful consideration to work together when optimizing consumer usability. Striking or highly contrasting colors (depending on your brand) often will greatly deter online consumers. Studies as well as personal experiences have shown that large amounts of uniformly formatted text, large or small, do not attract lasting attention from consumers. Sometimes, the best path for a brand to take with written content is short and sweet. Personally, I ignore unnecessary or exaggerated product descriptions. Simple websites with clear navigation and distinct text with appropriate amounts of white space show professionalism of a brand.
2. Measuring Performance - Analyzing how visitors navigate your website is an effective way to identify user patterns or apparent preferences. Visual programs like eye-tracking and click heat maps provide data that quickly tells you what your consumers first see, look for, and click on when navigating your website. Professor Liska mentioned in class that consumers expect to be able to click on a phone number listed on your website to initiate a call on mobile devices. He came to this conclusion after seeing a heat map of visitors' clicks when the phone number was not actually a link. Key insights such as this can add up to create an easy-to-use website and pleasant experience for consumers.
3. Optimized Website - People can be pretty impatient sometimes, since technological developments have been transforming the luxury of instant gratification into an expectation. In order to keep up with your consumers, optimizing the performance of your website is important. Some adjustments might need to be made to visual content quality in order for the user to experience a faster loading time. High resolution images and videos cause some internet browsers to be slower when loading a website. There is a fine line to walk when optimizing consumer experience and visual quality.
After doing everything you can to create a smooth experience for all who visit your website, your brand will build a relationship with each browsing consumer. An easy-to-use and navigate website is an attractive quality to consumers.
Hi Sheriana,
I really like the information you provided in your blog! In my opinion all of your three points are important when creating a website. I can say that visibility is one of the most important points, because people always go back to something that grabs their attention. Using colors and images is one of the best things that a website could have.
