Consumers are relying on the internet in their daily lives to gain most of their knowledge and do most of their shopping. With that, marketers need to keep their websites relevant to the constantly changing wants and needs of their constantly changing consumers.
As the target market for a specific website becomes known, the marketing team needs to take into consideration certain design techniques to optimize the websites effectiveness. Here I will be discussing a few important tips about web design that I learned in Digital Marketing and why they are effective.
1. Knowing Your Target Market
It is one of the most important things to know who your target market is when designing a website. Whether the site be for a brand, a single product, or a multitude of products, it must be easy to navigate and understand for whoever the consumer may be. For example, if the consumer is a middle aged woman looking for the best rice cooker, she is most likely not the most tech-savvy therefore she would not want to visit a site where she has to maneuver through so many different pages to find what she is looking for. The design should consist of categorized tabs which lead to links to take her exactly where she needs to be.
2. Graphics vs Text
When deciding where and how much of something to incorporate into the design of a website, considering the product(s)/service(s) as well as the target market will be the two biggest factors. The greatest answer to this question is “it depends.” For example, if it was a research site, more text would be acceptable in order to provide an accurate amount of information with the researcher. If too much text were to be put on say, a tutorial website, the visitor might be overwhelmed with the amount of information and move on elsewhere. When it comes to graphics, sometimes there is such thing as too much. But while the reader does need some written information, graphics are a great way of grabbing attention to stay on the website or giving a visual representation of something.
3. Corporate Design
If you want viewers to know who you are right away a brand logo is a good way to start. While visually stimulating, a logo can also legitimize the website if customers are unsure if they are in the right place. The first thing they should notice is where am I or whose website is this. A logo is also an attention grabber for the viewers to stay on the website and continue exploring until the next attention grabber, and so on and so on.

Will your viewers notice you?
Valuable information, lots of topics were discussed in this lecture. Your featured image’s red text leads me to investigate the rest of the image’s content. What I notice first about your blog’s content are your topic headliners since the font is bold and large. After that, I intentionally sought out the blog’s introduction, then followed the expected blog path of reading top to bottom. The image at the bottom is a perfect representation of what our eyes see when. I can’t help but read the lines in cartoon voices.
Hey Brianna, I agree with you when you say that people are relying on the internet for almost everything, even their shopping. We are living in an era where everything is becoming digital and now we can do shopping even from our homes. For this reason, the design of a website is very important to the eyes of the consumer. It is clear that if a company wants to go online, they should 1. Know the purpose of the website and 2. Know their target market. Who are they wanting to target? young, teens, elderly people?. This two components are key to creating a company’s web design. Also, I definitely agree with the fact a website should not necessarily be all images and less text, but it really depends on what the purpose of the website is all about. And last but not least, having your brand logo is super valuable because people will identify your brand by its logo. Good information!
Hello Brianna, I love the way how you explained the part about knowing the target market. As it’s known, knowing the potential market and understanding it leads to success and high sales. Knowing your market will give you an idea on how to approach every level of consumers. Overall, I believe you have done great job explaining the topic.
Great Information! The image is great, especially with the red text that stands out and sort of gives the title of what the blog will be about. The information provided was great, and super valuable to anyone creating a website. The way you distinguish your topic areas with bold and enlarged text makes it easier for the reading to know what the paragraph will be about. My favorite section that you have is the target market section. It gives great detail on how important a target market is to the success of the website. Many people go blind into an industry and know nothing about who they want to target.
Brianna, the information that you included in the blog is very informative and well written! I liked the design elements that you used to differentiate the topics that you are talking about, it made it easy to access and understand.
