Web Design: What stood out to me?

When I added this course to my schedule I was ecstatic. I have worked in social media marketing for over 8 years and that was all I had ever heard about “Digital Marketing”. I thought this class would be a breeze and other than SEO’s I had never thought of the importance of marketing when it comes to web design. I knew how important the coding of a website was when it came to the SEO keywords that allow consumers to find your products and location but never thought about how important the web design was when it came to marketing as a whole. When listening during class everything was honestly super interesting but there are a couple things that stood out to me.

1. Vector Images Vs Raster Images

Inherently, vector-based graphics are more malleable than raster images — thus, they are much more versatile, flexible and easy to use. The most obvious advantage ofvector images over raster graphics is that vector images are quickly and perfectly scalable. There is no upper or lower limit for sizing vector images.

When talking in class about Vector & Raster images I was super interested and honestly mind blown. I had always wondered why I couldn’t use images I wanted to in print designs. Learning the difference between the two was very interesting and helpful.

2. How much the size of text matters

When talking about the coffee website in class there was something about it that made me not like it. At first, I thought there was just too much information but after looking I realized there wasn’t that much information it was just difficult for me to read and enjoy because of how small the text was.

The size of text while planning and strategizing your website design is very important. If the text is to small it could be awkward looking and difficult to read/understand. But on the contrary, if the text is too big it could be intimidating, hard to understand, and not mesh well with the rest of the website.

3. The use of “Call to actions(CTA)” & Buttons

One thing that we discussed that I already had background information on was how important call to actions(CTA) usage is in digital marketing. Even if you have an amazing website that makes your consumer want to make a purchase if you don’t have a call to action of some sort there is a lot smaller likelihood of the consumer following through with a purchase.

The thing about CTA that I had never thought about in the past was how important the words and design of the CTA button is. The shape, color, size, and wording all is a contributing factor in how good your consumer conversion rate is!

It is estimated that 90 percent of people who look at your website will read your CTAs and if they are embedded in your text then your conversion rate will increase by over 120 percent. Those statistics are extremely telling.

4. Knowing your target market!

Knowing your target market is very important in web design. A website targeted towards 18-21 year olds will be very different than a website targeted towards 40-50 year olds.

5. Images importance

Researches tell that people tend to remember only 20% of what they read, while around 37% of population are visual learners. That means they tend to perceive visual information like images or infographics, better than text or audio.

(Matters, 2019)

The last thing that I found interesting and is very important to web design is images. As the percentage above states, 37% of the population consider themselves visual learners. Using images will make consumers understand the material and enjoy reading it more.

  1. Madison,

great job on your blog! I love your imaging and, as a visual learner, I agree with the importance of images in blogging. Your examples of big text, calls to action, and vector vs. raster clarify/summarize the topics. Also, the organization of the blog makes it easier to read!
