Step 1: Purpose

Before designing any sort of online media, we must identify who the target market is. It gives a general direction of who we are selling to and an idea of the design that we wish to produce in order to effectively communicate with this market.

It is important that we take into account the demographics of our audience to make our online campaigns more effective and credible towards that audience.

Step 2: Design

There are many features that websites should take into consideration when being designed.

Firstly, It is more effective to use graphics over text. Graphics are more interesting than text, it gives the user more to look at and maintain interest. It is preferable to include more images, however not to overload the page with it, as it can look too cluttered and can quickly overwhelm the audience. a well balanced page of text and graphics is the way to go.

Secondly, User experience should be considered. Designs for everything must have the user in mind when creating it. how they navigate the page, how easy it is for them to search for information they need, and how to generally use the website. Having a good user experience can bring about better communication to the audience, and maintain interest.

Lastly, designs need to consider corporate guidelines. They need to follow the rules that their business has set out, and regulations of law.

Step 3: Usability

Usability of online marketing should be improved over time through Optimization. This means making the website more efficient, improving the design and fixing up any problems over time. Thus, improving the usability and user experience allowing for better web marketing

.

Step 4: Testing

There are many ways of testing your web marketing page, some include A/B testing, Eye tracking, heat maps and Google Analytics.

A/B testing can be a good way to find out new ways to improve upon, such as ad campaigns, and designs. Testing what works and what doesn’t in order to slowly improve over time.

Eye tracking records the way users look around your site, or campaign. they track where users are drawn at when they look and gives a better idea of features that are eye-catching.

Heat maps record “hot” and “cold” places that users go towards when visiting a site. Where they spend the most time on on the page, and how they use the page. with this you can improve the usability and design.

Lastly, Google Analytics gives you a whole range of data such as how many people visit your site and at what times, allowing you to develop a clearer image of the target market

Keeping on track with different test give you a clearer idea on any problems, or areas to improve upon.
