There are endless uses for social media in this modern world we live in. Let’s dive a bit deeper and learn just how YOU can harness the power of this revolutionary marketing tool.

The 3 Types of Media

  1. Paid Media
    1. This includes television advertisements, radio ads, SEM (paid) search, print ads, + more.
  2. Owned Media
    1. This type of media includes retail stores, mobile apps, Facebook ‘fanpages’, + more
  3. Earned Media
    1. This is media that could include word of mouth, posts from users/consumers on social media, fourms, etc.

Who are the main players in Social Media?

There are three groups of ‘players’ in the world of Social Media. These include…

  1. Users
    1. They need a place to engage
  2. Social Platforms
    1. These require large amounts of server space + must be paid for.
  3. Advertisers & Firms
    1. These groups cover the costs of the platforms so that they can reach the user.

Common Social Media MYTHS

Social media is free. – FALSE, like mentioned above, there are 3 types of media and they require money to product (besides earned media).

Good social media must go viral. – FALSE, social media campaigns are about influencing potential buyers and that could happen on the first view a video gets. It certainly does not have to go viral to be successful because no matter how many or few views a post gets, it WILL influence someone!

Social media will replace traditional media. – FALSE, nothing will ever replace traditional marketing, social media is simply a type of marketing and will never fully replace traditional marketing efforts that have been used for decades.
