The 6 STEPPS to becoming a social media sensation!
Step 1: Social Currency
Many people want to see a monetary value on what it is you have to offer on your post. The idea of somebody trying or owning something that is monetarily on the upper-end of what the majority of the population can afford becomes extremely desirable to your followers. Something as simple as changing a caption on a post from “Riding on a train” to “First class tickets on my cross country train ride to California” will take a post from 0 to 100.
Step 2: Triggers
A trigger is something that reminds you of the product or the message you want to portray on your social media. If you want people to see that you enjoy and frequently travel the world, then posts about places you’ve been and seen will help reiterate your message. Constantly reminding your followers what you have to offer builds your brand, for example the brand ‘Friday Beers’ consistently posts on every Thursdays that it’s “Almost Friday”. This strategy has built their brand to becoming social media icons and having the ability to sell that brand to all their followers.
Step 3: Emotion
Connecting your posts to your followers emotions strongly enhances those followers to feel relate to that post. Creating a post that either touches your audiences soft side or poke at their angry side will create them to wanting to re-share/ re-post the message you want to get across. Making your audience feel something will make them relate to your brand, creating a sense of blind loyalty to what you have to offer.
Step 4: Public
Visibility of your product or what you have to offer is very important when trying to build your social media presence. Being easily accessible and easy to find on all social media platforms helps expand the reach to all audiences. Brand awareness is important to just getting your message to sit in potential consumers minds. Create a public social media page with many hashtags that can be found from even the smallest corners of the internet.
Step 5: Practical Value
Giving your post some practical value is very important when building your brand, because it can help give your social media presence some purpose in the real world. Creating posts like ‘how to’ or ‘life hacks’ give your followers a sense of involvement in your brand and what you have to offer. Some of the most successful social media influencers are those that do make-up tutorials, how to cook a certain dish, and simple every day lifehacks. The brand ‘Tasty’ which was bought out by Buzzfeed, has grown from a small Facebook page posting videos how to cook simple dish, to now where they are all over the internet and even sell pots and pans in places like Walmart and Target.
Step 6: Stories
Finally, the final step in building yourself into a social media icon is creating a story about your brand and the message you want to get out. A good story will draw attention from not only your followers but anyone who comes across it, something heartfelt or a success story pulls at your audiences heartstrings. Creating a story will not only initially draw your audience in, but it will also make those who saw the post want to return later on to see the outcome. One of my favorite social media presences on the internet is an Instagram page called ‘humansofny’, this page is created by one person who walks around New York City and talks to random people on the street. He meets some amazing people with some amazing stories, he then posts those stories but only a excerpt, he draws people in and makes them wanting to read more. This has led him to selling a #1 best seller on the New York Times, all because of his storytelling on simple Instagram posts.
