Intro to Social Media:

Social media is how we electronically connect with the world. It’s where we share our thoughts, personal information, keep in touch with friends and family, and even share hilarious 10-second videos. Social media is important because though it allows us to feel connected, it also benefits a company’s marketing strategy. Marketing through social media benefits a company because they’re able to interact with its customers. Social media also benefits the company because social media is a way for the company to gain more traffic. Social media has many benefits, but it can be negative if done incorrectly.

Earned Media:

Earned media is the free exposure that you earn from your customers through content. This can include mentions, comments, shares, posts, reviews, and reposts. It’s important to know that earned media is never paid for; this is why it’s called earned media. A specific example of earned media can be through a post on Facebook that got many shares.

Owned Media:

Owned media is media that can be fully owned or even partially owned. This can include owned websites or partially owned social media pages. It’s the channels that your company can control. An example of partially owned media is a Facebook fan page. An example of owned media is a company’s official website.

Paid Media:

Paid media consists of advertising. This is media that gains exposure by the company paying for it to gain the exposure. This type of media is aimed at targeting strangers to gain new customers for the company. An example of paid media is banners that you see on social media pages.

Summary:

Social media has become an important aspect of our daily lives and a company’s marketing strategy. It’s allowed companies to gain more attention for their products and bring in customers that they may not otherwise have without social media.
