SEO
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a way to optimize the amount of website traffic and is based around keywords. Its how Starbucks can rise to the top of the search results if you go on google and search “coffee”. In order to see the most results with SEO, the keywords used need to be relevant to your website and business, have keywords built into the website but do not over saturate, and regionalize yourself. For example, if someone just looks up “good burgers to eat.” a national chain might pop to the top, but as soon as they put “in radford” or “near me” in the equation a local burger joint may shoot to the top of Google.
Website Optimization
Keywords, although helpful, definitely won’t be enough to successfully use search engine optimization. After a consumer gets to the google result, they want it to look decent. That’s where Title Tags and Description Tags come into play. A title tag is the big blue hyperlink that comes up after a google search. You not only want it to contain the website/business name, but also some keywords in a organized fashion. Description tags are the nice little description that is normally shown at the bottom of a search result on Google. There is only so much space that you have, so you want to keep it to around the size of a tweet on Twitter, but the smaller the better. You want to incorporate some keywords while also giving a nice description of your product or service.
