Before we discuss techniques we can use to improve our website, and be more relevant in costumers searches, we must understand what SEO is. SEO is Search Engine Optimization. This is the efforts at improving the search engine rankings of a website for a specific keyword or set of keywords. Not that we have that out of the way, we can move onto the techniques. We can do this by adding keywords, website optimization and linking.

Keywords

These are words that are relevant to the target markets searches. We want them to have low competition, so our website shows up at the top of the list. So, when you are coming up with these words to include on your website, they should accurately represent your product or mission as a company. For example, if your product is environmentally cautious, its important to include that information. When someone researches for said products that are environmentally cautious, your website will pop up.

Website Optimization

When developing your URL, they should be optimized with the key words you included on your website. Page or company names are most often used as their URL. Choose wisely because they are where your keywords really matter. Next, make sure you include a brief description of your company and or products that define your company in the description tag. This is where you tell people why they should visit your website, purchase from you, or inquire about the products. This give consumers a glance at the company without having to click on the page.

Linking

This is my favorite because its so easy. All this is is linking other websites URL’s, images or advertisements to your websites. Google likes to see this because it shows you are building your community, like LinkedIn. So, if you have a company that your work with often or recommend their products or services, both websites should have links to the other. Doing this will increase your ranking with Google and have your website appear higher on the list when prospective customers google for products.
