Search engine optimization (SEO) History:
Going back to when internet was used primarily for communicating and networking, it wasn’t until the early 1990’s that the idea of SEO was introduced. Tim Berners-Lee launched World Wide Web, the very first website (Fig 1). After the launch, he had some assistance to develop the website from people who also had internet during that time. This created a need for better structured organizations on the web and a more efficient method to find information, search engine optimization was officially born. However, at the beginning, there were many flaws to the search outcomes, resulting in unwanted links.

It wasn’t long until Google saw this as an opportunity to update the algorithm and introduced Google Search Engine, overtime they effectively created the worlds best search engine to date.
After Google introduced their SEO, more companies started flooding the SEO industry, for example:
- Archie
- Excite
- Yahoo
- ALIWEB
- Wandex
And many more… Some of these search engine companies managed to do well, but others had primitive systems, which couldn’t compete. Especially with Google who was a head of the game and offering a user-friendly search engine and staying up to dates.
By the 2000’s, internet users were growing at an increasing rate, and so were different opportunities to use SEO productively. As businesses were growing, strategy plans were developing, more creative content that was being ranked, and businesses wanting effective advertising and marketing.
For years to come, efforts continued to ameliorate search results, enhancing relevancy, and providing valuable experiences for users.
