My favorite subject when speaking on the aspects of an effective website is purpose. Without purpose, the vision of the website is unclear, and is simply a display of a journey with no destination to be reached. Purpose gives a website meaning, purpose assists the website visitors with understanding the overall meaning of what is being marketed on the website. Considering that, it’s safe to say that purpose is a vital component of an effective website.

“According to Business Insider, 40% of consumers are heading to the search engines to get more information as they make their purchasing decisions.” (Sherman, 2019)

Clearly, the ease and simplicity of knowledge being marketed on a website is important for any business, especially considering the quote above. Understanding the purpose of your business will call for knowing the answers to the following questions: Are your goals to drive traffic, build awareness, or to sell products? Knowing this will help with determining what approach to take when creating an effective website.

The purpose of a website is broken down into two categories: target market and credibility. Target market is described as a particular group of consumers at which a product or service is aimed. When determining who the target market should be, the following questions should be addressed: Who is your target market? Are they old or young? Are they familiar with technology?

Lastly, and effective website has credibility. Credibility is defined as the quality of being trusted and believed in. Questions to be concerned with when addressing credibility are: Does the website look as the customer expects? Is there a place to learn more information about the company? Are there testimonials from previous customers being displayed on the website? Does the website have a security certificate?

All of these components are a must have on an effective website, and I’d say one of the most important factors. As I stated before, what’s an EFFECTIVE WEBSITE without PURPOSE

  1. What an interesting approach Elizabeth, I couldn’t agree more. Having a clear purpose can guide us where we want to go, and help us decide what we want to achieve with our website. Good job!!
