Why I love social media

Social Media Journey

I started working in social media at the young age of 14. I wanted to be a singer and a dancer but many had shot me down and told me I wasn't good enough. My high school was not a great environment for me. After having a very rough time with my health at my highschool(was having 15 seizures a day) and getting bullied on a daily basis, I was forced into hospital homebound schooling. Being homeschooled was hard. I had no social interaction and no way to express myself. That's when I turned to social media. After originally starting on Tumblr(sorry I deleted everything so you cant stalk me and find my cringe-worthy pictures <3), I started to gain a following and soon after switched to other social media accounts like Instagram. I found friends, supporters, and an outlet for me to be myself and market myself. Though since then I have changed accounts and go on and off of social media, I am so thankful for all of the amazing opportunities and connections it gave me.

Confidence

Social media gave me the confidence I needed in myself to succeed and be happy. I found that I wasn't perfect but neither were all of the social media influencers I surrounded myself with.  Once becoming close with people that I looked up to with 1 million + followers, I found that they weren't any different than all of us. They had acne,  got bloated, made mistakes. No one is perfect and meeting these people changed my life.

Supporters

From social media, I gained a group of supporters that made me feel loved and accepted. Though I don't dedicate much time to social media anymore and have lost connections to many of my social media and youtube friends, I still know that they are one text or call away.

Though much of the discussion I hear about social media becomes negative, I am thankful for what it has done for me. Thank you for helping me find myself and for giving me an outlet to truly be myself.

This 13-year-old girl was scared to even talk in front of a crowd. But partly thanks to social media and all it has given me I have become confident in myself and my talents.

Thank you social media for giving me all the opportunities you have!
