MYTHS

Good Social Media must reach millions of people.

TRUTH:

While the size of your account can provide a level of social proof, it does not directly affect the success of your social media strategy. You can have a small social media community and still be extremely successful if you’re directly connecting and engaging with your ideal clients, and are turning them into paying customers, loyal followers and/or brand advocates. Engage and provide value to the community you have on a consistent basis and it will naturally grow over time.

You need to be present on every social media platform.

TRUTH:

You will be wasting your time using a social media platform if your ideal clients aren’t using it. You only need to use Instagram for example, if your target audience is using it. Social media’s power is its ability to help you connect and build relationships with your ideal clients.

You should also only use as many platforms as you can manage effectively. Stretching yourself too thin over too many platforms can actually hinder your ability to build relationships and see results on any given platform. Social media requires spending time creating great content and also engaging in conversations with your community. If you are not responding to comments, questions and engagement, this could do more damage in the long run.

Social Media is Free.

TRUTH:

A lot of people believe that social media marketing is completely free of charge. In theory, this is the truth, but not in reality. Social media algorithms are making it increasingly difficult for brand content to be seen, forcing companies to enter a “pay to play” zone. This is why social media ad spending surpassed $19 billion in 2017.

  1. I love your use of color and GIFs in this blog post! Also the concept of “debunking” myths makes this more interesting!

  2. I like how you used the font color to express right (green) vs wrong (red), it’s simple yet easy to tell just by looking at it and it’s straightforward.
