There are several factors that are extremely important when looking into what goes into SEM ranking. SEM, or search engine marketing, is the process of marketing a site in order for it to be more accessible via search engines. The search engines results directly relate to the number of views the site gets as most people don’t venture past the first several results.
- Keywords: This is debatably the most important factor when talking about SEM. This is due to the fact that one of the most looked at factors on a site is if it includes keywords that lead a search engine to show a potential viewer your site tag.
- Mobile Friendliness: A large amount of online traffic is done through the use of mobile devices and because of this sites need to be optimized for mobile devices as well so that traffic isn’t averted due to a poor site design on mobile devices. If a site doesn’t run well or doesn’t work on a mobile device a potential viewer is very unlikely to continue visiting the site or view it at all.
- User Experience: The experience of a user is a very important when talking about SEO due to the fact that this ultimately decides if a person will continue to access your site for new information. Search engines such as google use things like clickthrough rate, bounce rate, and dwell time in order to rank sites based on the users experience. If a person spend very little time on a site or “bounce away” after a short time gives a very good indication as to wether the users had a good or bad experience.
- Testimonials: This can be a very important part of using SEM properly so that your site can gain views. This is essentially the posting and mentioning of a product and or website in order to help them gain traction in the market. A third parties blog post or video talking about a product or site and giving their opinion as to the experience they had and the quality of the information or product can be very influential. These posts can include links to allow potential customers or viewers easy access back to the talked about site which allow for the site to gain views and potentially customers.
