Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is essentially getting ranked higher for specific keywords or a set of keywords, It helps consumers to find websites that is relevant to their search. Having SEO can generate organic traffic to your site.

Some tips to have good SEO include:

  • Keywords need to be relevant
  • Keywords that can generate enough search traffic
  • Keywords with ideally low competition

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

SEM/ Pay Per Click (PPC) Is when a website pays money in order to be ranked higher on a search engine, they have a [Ad] symbol next to it to identify this.

It's still very important that a Website has good SEO if they are also doing SEM and/or PPC as having good SEO can impact the pricing of SEM.

We can measure this though the use of Cost Per Click (CPC), however not every click may leave a good impression on the consumer and they might not stay long on the site if it holds no relevancy to what they are looking for.

SMART Goals

The main goal for SEO/ SEM should be Smart: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely

Having smart goals will enable better SEO and should be followed to make a website more effective and generate more impressions. Smart goals include being:

  • Specific: Such as being ranked on the first page of Google
  • Measurable: Can be measured through Impressions, CPC, Google Trends, etc.
  • Attainable: Is possible to do
  • Relevant: The website is relevant to specific keywords in the search
  • Timely: Can be achieved in a defined timeline e.g. 1 year

  1. Dylan,

Your post has good information and I really like how you used colors and bullets to break up the information. It’s organized well and easy to follow. Your featured image could be better as it does not cut well on the main page.
