You may have taken ISM and worked with the likes of HTML and CSS, but does that mean you know how to create an effective website?
When navigating a website consumers want information before making a purchase or maybe they just want to look around a little longer. You must be able to provide them with that information but also in a way that is approachable
Concise and Clear Headings
One great way to direct a person to the information they may be looking for is to have concise and clear heading. They help to provide context as well as make it easier to navigate.
Paragraphs
When displaying information that you know the consumers coming to your page are going to look at it would be in your best interest to have the information in shorter paragraphs. If they are looking for something specific chances are they are going to scan until they find the subject they wanted. Creating short paragraphs allows them to scan quickly and avoid any irritation they might have developed if they would have had to read a long paragraph.
Bullet points and Numbered lists
If you have a lot of information you want to share and it might be a little too much to put into full sentences bullet points can help make it easier to:
- scan for important information
- draw attention to information
- communicate efficiently
Bold and Italics
Continuing with the theme of seeking out relevant information simple using Bold and Italics can be used to emphasize items of interest or importance, but must be used sparingly
You had a great idea to support your points by showing examples, such as concise and clear headings, bold and italic, and the bullet points and numbered lists sections. Also, Pikachu as your featured image quickly drew me to read your post. Focusing on the consumer is very important when crafting a website, I appreciate that you reminded the readers of this while teaching some technical points.
I agree with both of your statements; I came for our class mascot and stayed for those examples. It seems like most of the blogs posted have been talking about these aesthetic choices but not making the choices themselves, including me. Like I said in another comment, I’ll definitely be rethinking that choice and start using the concepts from class to bolster my posts.
Love your header photo. Very eye-catching and great information.
Very useful information and i love how for each section you did what the title was!! Also love the featured picture!
