Social Media Marketing

What is social media marketing? It is a form of internet marketing utilizing social networking sites as marketing tools, thereby gaining traffic, brand exposure, and customer interaction through social media.

I could talk about social media for hours because there is so much to talk about within social media. One of my favorites is The Marketing “Trifecta. You have earned media, owned media, and paid media.

Earned media is shares, mentions, reviews, posts…., and free exposure from customers’/consumers’ generated content. This is correlated with fans, which means word of mouth, Facebook, and Twitter.

Owned media is your website, fan page, and the channels the firm controls. It can be wholly owned (websites) or partially owned (Facebook fan page, Twitter account). This is correlated with customers, so using things like Facebook and Fanpage.

Paid media may be the easiest to remember because it’s advertising. It’s correlated with strangers, so when you see a banner that is related to paid media, a company is paying to have that banner put up for strangers to see and show interest in their company.
