What are Meta Tags?

Meta Tags can be simply defined as short snippets of text that describes a pages content. These tags don’t appear on the actual page but rather in the pages source code instead. They do also appear under the search results (Descriptor tags & Title tag). Meta Tags act as brief content descriptors that tell search engines what the website is about.

Why Are Meta Tags important?

Meta tags are a crucial, and often overlooked part, of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Meta tags play a big role in how a website appears on a search result leading to an impact in a websites click-through-rate. Meta tags are essentially the first descriptors a potential consumer sees. It is important that these statements are well thought out, accurate, and paint a picture of what the consumer is to expect of your company

What Makes a Good Meta Tag?

The key is to make meta tags short yet descriptive at the same time. They need to be able to assist in drawing in potential customers to get that initial click on your webpage. It is important to include your target keywords in these descriptions; however, you shouldn’t overdo it with keywords just to get it seen. The keywords should be placed only where it makes sense. The main, overarching goal of Meta Tags in the end is to inform and intrigue interest while keeping the description as concise as possible.
