SEO vs. SEM

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, meaning that when you search for something in Google it looks for keywords in your search to give you the most relevant search that matches what you are searching for. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing, meaning companies are paying for their advertisements to pop up when you search for something, whereas SEO is free and is organic searches that the company does not pay to get their ads seen.

When creating a website using SEO you should include keywords in the URL so it will pop up when customers search for your product. You also use Meta Tags while using SEO. Meta Tags are descriptors that help tell the search engine what the website is about. You also want to have a Title Tag which is different then a Meta Tag. The Title Tag is different from the Meta Tags because Title Tags are the names of the web page in the tab of a browser, whereas a Meta Tag is just a description of what the website is about. It also helps say the right thing about your business when it is listed in the search engine.

There is also a Description tag which is the second part of your listing, this tells people why they should visit your website over other seller’s website, why they should purchase from you instead of your competitor, or to inquire or learn more about your product and what sets you apart from other people that sell the same product.
