This blog will be talking about how the weather outside can effect people’s shopping habits. When it is sunny/hot outside, people tend to spend less time online shopping because bright and happy outside. As opposed to when it is rainy/cold outside, people tend to spend more time online shopping, because it is a gloomy day and they don’t want to go outside when it is raining to go to the store to look at stuff, when they can just look and order stuff online.
One of the studies that was conducted showed that when it is rainy or cold outside, actually boosts online shopping for furniture, clothing, house supplies, and wholesale retailers by 12%. Product demand also has a factor to play in shopping habits, such as during winter time there is a high demand for winter boots and coats, some products get more attention when the weather changes as well. When the temperature slightly drops sales of soup, oatmeal, and lip balm goes up since the weather is getting colder. Product price as plays a role as well, such as the sales of coffee go up on a gloomy day.
On the other hand when it is sunny or hot outside more of the brick and mortar stores get more sales then online shopping on the store’s website, like in the winter during summer there is a high product demand for swimsuit, sunscreen, and if you like to go fishing then fishing supplies are also in demand during that time. Purchase price has shown that when it is sunny more people are likely to get green tea and a gym membership after being in the sunlight.
What this all means is that the weather can affect consumer behavior tremendously depending the the weather and the season at the time. It is also a range of how much they are willing to spend, where to buy those products, and what products they are willing to buy.
