What makes a website bad and ugly?
A bad website is hard to use, not aesthetically pleasing, and can sometimes be “too much”. For example, I am a NY Jets fan and lets say I am trying to order a new shirt for a game that I am attending. If I visit a site and am trying to buy a shirt, I was a website that is going to maybe take me 3 clicks to get to the shirt I want. If go to a website and it has several drop-down menus, multiple links to get to one page, and very glitchy I am going to go searching for a different website. It is important to run tests on your website and make sure it is easy to use. If you are testing a website and you are having trouble, why would you want that to be available to consumers?
What are the components of a good website?
I found this chart that I feel gives 6 great elements. If you have all 6 of these elements in your website, it will be hard to not have your website one of the top websites. In my opinion number 5 is extremely important. When you are searching for something online, normally, one of the top 5 websites has exactly what you are searching for. That is because these websites have taken SEO seriously and have used it in every form. Until this class I never fully understood the importance of SEO or ever knew what it was.
An example of SEO:

These are the first websites that both popped up when I searched “ny jets shirt” and “green bay packers’ shirt”. This just shows that the NFL shop is optimizing SEO. They are the first website to pop up when searing NFL football gear. If this pops up for 2 teams, I am sure it will pop up for all of them. The NFL has worked hard to use SEO for most all of the keywords that pertain to anything football. This is just one example of why SEO is important. Always use SEO for your future websites and hopefully you can get one of the top 5 spots like the NFL.
