Black Hat vs White Hat Techniques

Do not use black hat techniques when trying to obtain emails, one example of using a black hat technique is the scrape the web for email addresses and purchasing it from other people. A better way to do this is to obtain the address from the actual customer. Your emails want to be important so your customers are excited to receive emails from you, try not sending emails that will end up in spam and instead send emails about product specials, information, and media content.

Opting In/ Opting Out

Having your customers opt in is a lot better in the long run then having them opt out. You want your customers to WANT to opt in to your emails. If they forget to uncheck the box, your emails may not be interesting and end up in the junk folder. A step even farther is to offer a double opt in. When customers receive an email to confirm their subscription. It will increase the loyalty in your business.

Using opt in and double opt in while organically obtaining your email list by using a QR code or call to actions is the most efficient way to get people on your email list. Making sure people are able to unsubscribe for your email is the most important, you do not want to sway them away from your products. Offer good deals and have an incentive for people to sign up, and just being straight forward and having that transparency when your customers will persuade them to subscribe to your email list.
