If you’re like me or almost anyone else in the world you’ve been persuaded by Instagram in some way. How you may ask? Well, for most it’s probably to finally give in and buy that item you’ve been seeing everywhere on your Instagram explore page. In the end of 2020, I was persuaded to by the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 on their first initial release. I purely bought this shoe on the release solely because of how Instagram made me perceive it. This is what I would call the power of social media marketing.

At the time, I loved the brand and everything else they were doing, but when it came to this shoe release, I was hesitant. My hesitation ended up being very much correct. Once I received the shoes in the mail I absolutely hated them. They just looked big, clunky, and weird on my feet but looked fantastic every single time I saw them on Instagram. Which makes perfect sense. Aimé Leon Dore had and still has mastered their social media marketing. You seen them being posted by friends and followers of the brand. You seen the lookbook for the collection everywhere. You even seen early pairs of the sneakers in outfit photos on every single repost page. This was and is what social media marketing is to a tee. Organically or paid, social media marketing will get you in one way or the other. Everyone is a victim.
