What is social media, and is it different than social media marketing? Social media is a form of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. While social media marketing is a form of internet marketing that utilizes social networking sites as a marketing tool, thereby gaining traffic, brand exposure and interaction with customers through social media.
There are some myths about social media. The first is that social media is free. Almost all influencers on social media platforms are sponsored by companies trying to sell something. A lot of the posts made by these influencers are paid promotions, with the goal to be that the influencer will get their followers to buy the specific product or service with an incentive of a promo code or something along those lines. The next myth is that a good social media post must go “viral”. There are many viral pictures, videos, or articles that are not good. Sometimes the greatest posts on social media will not go viral. It is extremely difficult to go viral because of the millions of users across all social media platforms. Chances really are one in a million when posting something and trying to go viral. The last myth that I’ll talk about is that a good social media campaign can fix most other problems. For instance when Pepsi used Kendall Jenner for one of their ads in the past and it hinted that Pepsi would fix police brutality it backfired greatly.
Overall, social media marketing can be very effective when done correctly. And doing it correctly takes a lot of trial and error, but in the end it can really benefit your company.
