Linking Terms

Terms that are important to know the difference when trying to improve your SEO.

  • Link Text: The text that users see on the page
  • Link URL: The place the link will bring a user
  • Internal Links: Linking on your website that brings you to another page on your own website
  • Inbound Link (Backlink): Link that is coming from another website to yours
  • Outbound Link: Link that leads someone to another website
  • Paid-Link: Link coming from advertising

Its good for your website to focus on inbound and internal links are the most important for search engines like google. Internal links make it easier for users to find certain things on your website if you are using good link text. Inbound links help the most to increase the flow of users from other websites to increase credibility. With a good article your website and hold the number one spot on good easily.

Link Building

Link building focuses on 3 different things to improve your website.

  • Increase total backlinks
  • Backlink from related websites
  • Make sure all links link to the correct place

The most important thing is to make sure the links link to the right pages in any situation so you don’t lose potential clients. Even though it’s good to increase total backlinks it must be from relevant sources or actual websites. Google can catch on if you are using spam websites to increase your backlinks and lower your SEO. The number one rule of thumb to go by is quality over quantity.

When building a link-building plan there are some questions you have to ask yourself to be successful. First, you gotta decide how you will bring customers to your website either online or offline resources.

  • What local opportunities do you have?
  • Are there opportunities to create content to promote our company?
  • How can we use social media to our benefit?

When building a plan you have to think of it as a spider web with your company in the middle. Each level can be a link back to your website or a website from another website.

Link Farming

Link farming is the term used when getting backlinks from spam websites that I touched briefly on in the last insert. They are websites that promise to help you boost your SEO by entering you into link exchange programs. These websites can only create popularity but no traffic to your website. Link farming is illegal and can be penalized and is considered spam.
