The Marketing Trifecta

What is Earned Media?

Earned media is essentially free advertising. It is the amount of exposure and views you get just by running a good business. If your brand seems worthwhile by viewers, then you’re advertising without having to even advertise. Earned media can include reposts and mentions on social media, good customer reviews, high ratings, and is often a result of going viral on the internet. Basically, it’s the attention your platform gains by word of mouth.

What is Owned Media?

This next type of media is where the earned (or paid) media takes you: owned media. Owned media is the website, social platform, fan page, blog, etc.; it’s basically what you would be trying to advertising. The media can be any web property that you control your brand through.

What is Paid Media?

The third type of media, completing the trifecta, is paid media. Paid media explains itself, it’s media that you or your brand pays to market. Paid media promotes your brand and leads to plenty of direct exposure as well as increases the word of mouth. The media comes in any form of advertising (i.e., commercials, banners, mail, paid sponsors, etc.). If you’re struggling to promote your brand by just free earned media, using paid media would help to kickstart exposure to your brand.
