Social media has become very popular in the past 2 decades. It was created as a form of communication, now it holds much more power. Companies began creating accounts and sharing information about their companies, then began promoting on all platforms. Today that is known as Social Media Marketing. This week Professor Liska proved the definition of Social Media Marketing: “A form of Internet Marking utilizing social networking sites as marketing tools, thereby gaining traffic, brand exposure and interaction with customer through social media.”

Use on social media is 24/7. Consumers never turn off their phones, so marketing on social media must be constant. This doesn’t mean that content isn’t planned out, it just means companies need to make more. When advertising on social media companies should stick to these 4 easy steps to ensure positive content and attention for the brand.

Step 1: Determine the Objective

All marketing should have an objective. If there is no “why” then there is no point to move on to the next step. After determining the objective or goal, then the content will be more effective. This first step is very important and sets the tone for the rest of marketing plan. 

Step 2: Plan the Content

The next step is to plan the content. Now that the objective is determined, the type of content should be based on the goal. This will lead to focused and effective content. The number one thing to remember is to not stray from the goal. That will lead to false information and potentially negative attention.

Step 3: Distribute and Promote

Once you have found the content, you can focus on the context. The context is where the ads are going to be posted. This decision is also based on the objective. If the content isn’t reaching the right people, then the ad was a waste. It is important to post content for your target market to see.

Step 4: Measure Success

After you have followed and completed the past three steps, it is time to measure success. Success can be shown in a few different ways. It can be shown by traffic, followers, or likes. If the content is based on your target market and has a clear goal, then you will be able to define success a lot easier because you have something you want to achieve. This data will help in creating future content.
