What constitutes as Social Media Marketing?

The term social media marketing or SMM, refers to the use of social media and social networks to market a company’s products and services. Social media marketing provides companies with a way to engage with existing customers and reach new ones while allowing them to promote their desired culture, mission, or tone.

I will be going over some of the more popular content formats of SMM.

Video

The amount of time people spend viewing online video has grown rapidly across the world, at an average rate of 32% a year between 2013 and 2018. With new apps and features like TikTok and Instagram Reels watching video content has never been easier or more prevalent. Your videos can be as simple as a first person shot of the product/service your business offers or as complex as a small movie set with high grade cameras a director and actors. The beauty of videos is that depending on the platform it is posted and the audiences reaction your ‘simple’ video could very well outperform a video that someone spent thousands of dollars to make. There are video ideas for every budget so start shooting today!

Podcast

A podcast provides a format for sharing your expertise in your industry. Regular podcasts with accurate information or ideas help establish you and your company as an authority in the business. Customers want a company that knows the industry, so the podcasts help build up that trust. The podcast approach is a little more information driven, they can be funny and shareable in some moments but usually a business will implement one to talk about certain things that the company is doing. I would say the strength of the podcast over other information devices is that it provides a more personal connection. Podcasts are typically more informal that informality adds to the sense of connection.

Blog Post

Your blogs goal should be to continually add value by publishing informative, well-written articles created with strategy and customer engagement in mind. By posting frequent and consistent content that drives educational and entertainment value, you’ll increase your website’s traffic organically. For many businesses, such as personal trainers, home contractors, landscapers, web designers, etc., a blog can act as an ongoing portfolio of past work. The main takeaway from implementing blogging in your strategy is to be consistent. Whether that be creating new blogs often or going back and updating old blogs consistency is key.

Infographic

Infographics display large amounts of data and information in the form of a graph or picture. They are used for many reasons: They’re entertaining, eye-catching, concise, and all the information they contain is easily digested by the reader so they’re useful, too.

In order to have a strong social media presence I recommend implementing all of these strategies. By covering all of your bases you insure your maximum online reach!
