Web Design and its importance

As a student who studies Design, you think we’d learn more on a lot of basic information on Web Design, right?

Coming into this class one would have no clue what you would expect to do in this class as the title states digital marketing. Only a few days in we briefly cover the particular topic of Web design, which to my surprise I’ve never learned about in previous classes I’ve took.

You may be asking what this has to do with the author of the blog being a design student. Welp, it has to do with a lot there are so many things a design student can do with their degree, and not learning basic information such as UX can hold back on great opportunities in the future as technology is progressing extremely fast. As someone who places functionality over visuals when it comes to design learning about this particular topic can be a great eye-opener.

Some things as:

  • Corporate Design
    • Official graphical design standards
    • Brochures
    • Websites
    • Legibility
    • Cultural Implications (Colors)
  • Imagery
    • Copyright issues
  • Consistency
    • Color coding
    • Tonality in texts
    • Themes

The list above shows some of the things I’ve never really learned in my required courses, though some may be really obvious, it’s more a piece of unconscious information in the back of your mind that is harder to pull out. Only being more conscious about it you can really act on them especially when there are other people involved.

This being my favorite topic of Effective marketing due to the fact that it was able to pull out some of the information I knew and let’s me act on things with a more clear mind.
