Our social media platforms are essentially us marketing ourselves for the work to see. We marketing ourself on sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and FaceBook. What we may not realize is that we need to be professional while posting on these sites. In today’s day and age, 92% of companies use these social media accounts to recruit potential employees. it is essential to make sure you are not posting things you wouldn’t want your boss to see.

So, what should I avoid? One of the biggest things is a negative attitude. No potential employer is going to hire someone who is constantly negative and doesn’t bring a positive energy to the environment. They are looking for someone who is a positive team player and brings positivity to the situation. Next, no drunk pictures. It is okay to have a post with an alcoholic beverage in the content, but DO NOT post pictures of you drunk that are embarrassing or something you wouldn’t post if you weren’t intoxicated. Lastly, do not post anything with profanity, post with sexual behavior, or illegal substances. The easy rule to remember is if you wouldn’t want your boss to see it, do not post it.
