Digital Marketing, Creativity, and People

What makes digital marketing so special compared to the standard marketing of the past? It’s not just the platform, it’s how the platform is used, and how people are interacting with it.

When you make advertisements on social media, for example, you can’t slap up the same old routine you’ve been using because it will be quickly, efficiently, and brutally trampled over by something funny, shocking, or overall more interesting. The most efficient social media campaigns are the ones that can get people talking about a product in a positive manner. This requires a lot of creativity and a lot of understanding of people and what they enjoy.

Implementing ads on different platforms are also different than one another, Twitter’s format and Instagram’s format aren’t the same, and therefore require an adjustment in presentation to a similar concept.

This all adds up to an extremely dynamic, never boring career that gives you new challenges, new insights, and creative outlets that other careers can’t offer.

  1. You make a great point in your blog. Many people in advertising see something perform successfully and just try to replicate it with their brand even if it doesn’t fit the brand or the social media site they are using. For instance, a lot of brands tried copying Wendy’s mean attitude but it doesn’t always work.

  2. This is a great point! I sort of touched on this in my blog post, but never realized that it can indeed be a wonderful creative outlet and a source for a fun, dynamic career. It is absolutely true that if you do not try to differentiate from everyone else in your target market, you might as well be throwing money in a furnace.
