This April the World Wide Web will be celebrating it’s 27th birthday, yet the internet itself is getting closer to 50. It’s truly mind boggling that we have come this far.
The Internet
The internet was a sort of collaborated idea for most of the 1900’s. It wasn’t until the Advanced Research Project Agency Network (ARPANET), funded by the U.S. Department of Defense worked with the first prototype. They had multiple computers communicating on a single network and called this use packet switching. By 1969 they were able to make some major break throughs in delivering a simple message from one computer to another.
The World Wide Web
It wasn’t until the 90’s when scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW)that we know today. To clarify, the WWW is where data can be accessed online in the form of hyperlinks and websites. The internet would never have gotten recognized by the public if it weren’t for the web. It is the means for gathering, sharing, and communicating information.
Tim Berners-Lee was working at CERN at the time of his invention. He is not only responsible for the creation of the World Wide Web, but also the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), and HyperText Markup Language (HTML). One might call Tim Berners-Lee the CODING GOD.

FunFact: None of this would be possible if it weren’t for those submarine communications cables laid beginning in the 1850s. Ex; Telecom, and Seismic.

I really enjoyed reading your post! It was very interesting and I loved the fun fact at the end. Great job!!
Very interesting! I did not know a lot of this information but seems like something people should know. Great post!
Great post!! Amazing approach explaining the importance that the internet has had over the years, and how that makes coding even more important nowadays. This is information Is very new to me, but I’m glad I know it now. Great Work! đŸ™‚
