5 Steps for SMART Goals

216

For every goal that you set in life and in the work place, it’s important to make sure that they are smart. SMARTĀ is an acronym where each letter represents a step to make achieving your goals that much easier.

Specific- This means that the goal has to be simple and sensible as well as address the 5 w’s (Who, What, When, Where, and Why). At Orange Theory our KPI’s act as our specific goals, for example, we’re required to have 40 contacts, 10 leads, 4 intros, and 2 sales per day!

Measurable- With the more specific goals, the more they become measurable with the metrics that are in store. With having the set numbers makes it easy to track the progress and keeps the focus for myself.

Attainable- With your goals being specific and measurable, it is important to make them attainable. While you want to make the goal stretch abilities, you also want to be able to reach those. 40 contacts and 2 sales per day is a very attainable and realistic goal that can be reached everyday!

Relevant- With making goals relevant, it’s important to make sure that they matter to not only yourself but as well as the companies you’re working for. Our goal is to sell the relevance in our product which is heart rate based interval training.

Time-Bound- With this step, you need to set either a time frame or end date to be able to one, keep track and the other, to not lose sight of the goal! At Orange Theory our end date is every 15th and 30th of the month!

So to wrap things up, when you implement goals that they need to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, timely, and most of all SMART! So just make sure to remember that…

  1. Scott,

Just when I thought S.M.A.R.T goals could not be broken down anymore, you managed! Your examples and explanations would be really helpful to someone unfamiliar with S.M.A.R.T goals. Good job!
