The Importance of Social Media in Business

207

In today's technological age, all the information you could ever want is at your fingertips...literally.

Now that we are all connected online, and no one is ever more than an arm's length away from their mobile device.

It is only natural that our purchase decisions are intertwined with social media too.

All businesses, from mom-and-pop's to multinational corporations, can benefit from participating in social media.

But only if it is utilized correctly.

Here are some ways that social media can help your business.

Building Brand Equity

Your presence on social media should create or reinforce positive mental associations that consumers have about your brand.

This increases brand loyalty, and as we all know, people buy from companies they like.

You can add value to your brand, in the eyes of the consumer, with relevant and effective marketing campaigns.

Can you even think of someone whose brand equity is higher than Mr. Rogers? Seriously?

Building Brand Awareness

Before we can remind everyone about how much they love us, they first have to know who we are.

Getting your name out there and having people remember it can be tough, but social media is a great tool.

Brands can accomplish this organically, by creating relevant and valuable content, or by purchasing advertisements through the various social media platforms.

Remember, if you want to differentiate yourself, you have to be different.

BMW once created an entire series of online films featuring their automobiles.

Engaging With Customers

Social media allows two-way communication between businesses and their customers.

By engaging one-on-one with your target market, you are now capable of gaining insights that were once unattainable.

You can induce more purchases by staying relevant and presenting them with more opportunities to buy.

Their feedback gives you the ability to provide them with better products and create a customer for life.

Online Reputation Management

The Internet can help you build a great reputation. It can destroy it too, if you're not careful.

Like Uncle Ben said, "With great power, comes great responsibility."

When facing an undesirable situation, like an unsatisfied customer, act as if the whole world is watching...because they are.

Here are 3 T's to remember when dealing with O.R.M.

  • Timeliness
  • Transparency
  • Training

  1. Loved the layout of the blog! It is very clean and fun, while still providing insightful information. Great use of GIFs related to the topics in an uplifting, humorous way. It was very fun to read, great use of white space, font stylization, and overall structure. My only recommendation would be to center the first heading paragraph so it goes aligned with the rest of the body.

  2. Jeff,

I love the way your blog looks. The spacing and information are great. I completely agree with everything you wrote about the importance of social media and the specific examples you pointed out. BRAVO
