Know The Difference: RGB Model vs CMYK Model

Why Is It Important?

Knowing the difference between RGB and CMYK is very important regarding how you distribute your graphic content. It is just as important as knowing when to use vector and raster images. Not knowing when to use the two can leave your end product looking lackluster.


RGB

Red Green Blue (RGB) is the color model used when dealing with digital mediums. These digital mediums include computers, phones, televisions, etc. The RGB Model is classified as an addictive color model and transfer light. When all three colors come together they produce white.


CMYK

Cyan Magenta Yellow Black (CMYK) is the color model used when dealing with printed mediums. These printed mediums include posters, magazines, newspapers, etc. The CMYK Model is classified as a subtractive color model. The more colors used in this model the closer your colors will appear to blacken.

Now that you know the difference between RGB and CMYK, you should always know what situation to use the two. If ever you come to realize the model you have chosen is not best for your medium, you can always convert it online. In the case of printing, make sure to have the printshop worker check your model because they will not always do it for you.
