In this blog, I will be discussing the different advantages Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have for businesses marketing on social media.
The world’s most popular social network, Facebook, was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin on February 4, 2004. Facebook is generally used by anyone between the age group of 18 to 50 and there are slightly more female users than male users. Facebook can be used to promote and advertise a variety of different things like a post, a website, a page, an app, a business, or an offer. Facebook now offers Facebook Marketplace, where users can attempt to sell items at whatever price they want. A big thing Facebook is doing now that they were not doing in the past is taking into account different users’ search histories to display posts and advertisements that correlate with things that the user has been searching for.

Instagram was founded on October 6, 2010, by Kevin Systrom, and Mike Krieger but was purchased by Facebook in 2012. Instagram is known for bringing the “@” and “#” symbols to a new level of importance, as utilizing these symbols correctly can assist a post in gaining recognition and potentially help a post go viral. Instagrams primary audience is between the ages of 25-35 and is more female than male. Instagram is also used by influencers, who can use their profiles as a brand equity opportunity by getting paid by companies to post and promote their products.
The public messaging board Twitter was founded on March 21, 2006, by Jack Dorsey (current CEO), Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. Twitter’s target audience is only slightly younger than facebook but the genders are more balanced. Brands that market on Twitter tend to get more personal with their audience, as they can repost and comment on different accounts more frequently. Twitter is also big when it comes to political marketing as well and uses hashtags to allow topics to become more searchable.
