Linking helps build your site and increase its relevance. There are a number of ways to use link building on your site, but don’t get too excited! By using too many links on a site, you can be penalized for link farming as it is a form of spam. The benefits of link building are increasing the number of backlinks, getting backlinks for other relevant or related websites, decrease backlinks from spam sites, and etc. I will go over the different types of linking below!


Link Text

Text that appears on the site page in a sentence or etc. Can be highlighted, underlined, or in a different text color to stand put from a non-linked word. This is easy to use when you are writing about a topic that is already covered somewhere else on your own site, or a topic you don’t need to expand on and can redirect a user to another site.

Link URL

Destination to which the link will lead the user to another piece of content; can be anywhere and lead to anywhere. This will just look like a regular website address, commonly listed in this format for sources.

Internal Links

Linking within your own website from one content to another page. Internal links are important for search engines as they provide a better user experience. They also are useful for keeping users on your site when they are looking for information that you can offer.

Inbound Link

Link coming from another website and directs a user to your website. Important for search engines because they increase your relevance and credibility for certain topics.

Outbound Link

Link coming from another website from your own site. This benefits other sites, so be sure to direct users to a site you trust in order to provide a better experience for users.

Paid Link

Link coming from paid advertising on another site. There are several different kinds of advertisements that you can choose to pay for to promote your site.
