204

It may be surprising that many people don’t know how exactly the internet works. All we know is that we connect to the wireless internet on our phone or computer. It is a process that few people know about. Hopefully after reading this blog will help you understand how the internet works.

What is the Internet?

The internet is not a random space, it is a wire that runs underground. People often use their computers, often called clients, to communicate through the internet. This process continues with each client and their internet provider. Finally, a router is used for multiple clients to ensure that information goes to the correct destination.

How does the Internet Work?

In order to visit a webpage, there are files that are stored in a server. The internet works by connecting a laptop, or client, to the internet through an internet service provider. We can go on our laptop, enter a website we are interested in, and the user can look at the webpages. At any point where two or more parts of the internet intersect, there is a device called a router. This device is often used by many people, especially in the same household. These routers are able to separate the information from multiple devices, and make sure that the information goes to the intended receiver. This process is how I am able to complete assignments in my room while other people use the same internet connection to do their classes. It would be a mess if we did not have any routers to sort the information!

Summary

Although the internet is a very complex information system, it’s not complicated with just a little bit of understanding. A large majority of people use the internet at some point throughout the day. Many people do not know how the internet works, and hopefully by reading this blog, they can gain more knowledge about it!
