Personal Marketing

The Do’s and Don’ts of Social Media and Building Your Brand.
Although it’s a really “boomer” phrase, “everything you do on the internet can be found”, holds some truth to it. Most of your social media pages are a click away for employers, prospects, and some people who might be nosey. Things you said 10 years ago can and will be uncovered by anybody looking for them, however there are precautions such as having a private profile or simply deleting those old posts. Some platforms allow you to archive posts, which will still hide them from outsiders.
Professional Presence
Keep social media feeds clean and be careful what you post or promote on your page. The content reflects your image and the brand you are trying to build. LinkedIn is the most popular app among business professionals, allowing them to network, display work experience, and contact employers. Choosing the “professional” route puts you in a spotlight. Another way is to develop a personal website that you can make interactive and use as kind of resume that potential employers can view.
On your professional platform, you should refrain from showing a reference to and consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs. An occasional post of you with a drink in an appropriate setting, but nothing where you are drunk or obviously intoxicated. This will have a negative affect and place a bad impression. Another thing to do is to check for spelling, profanity, and other bad habits before posting. Social Media has been, and will continue to be, the main reason most people don’t get a job or get fired from the one they have.
Personal Presence
Although this type of profile is made for self interests, it should still be monitored and show things you wish for people to see. With a personal approach, due to there not being a need for people you don’t know to see it, it is best to use the privacy settings and other types security offered. Some media has “clean-up” abilities in order to control activity from the past.
Both presences should reflect yourself and your morales; no media should be used maliciously.
Hi Matthew,
Good topic and good information. I like the informal tone you used to reach your target audience and I like your title, it draws the reader in. This could have been broken up with more pictures to make it easier to read.
