Using analytics to show improvement
Working for a small business when first getting started as a marketing professional is very common. One issue that many run into is the lack of knowledge business owners have on the importance of marketing. In my experience, many small businesses will underpay or cut marketing altogether because of not seeing a quick difference in sales. These experiences have made me understand how important digital analytics is to not only strategize and manage marketing plans but also to show the small differences marketing efforts are making.
Digital analytics can be used to measure, analyze, and manage. By using digital analytics, marketing experts working for a small company can have solid information backing decisions that will make explaining why things need to be changed a lot easier for business owners to understand.
WHY AREN’T SALES INCREASING?!?
One thing I have found to be very difficult is explaining why sales haven’t doubled or tripled after a couple months of investing in my services. This is where analytics come in handy. By using different analytics programs you can show the increases in engagement, heatmap clicks, CTR, and so much more. Though analytics is not my specialty, gaining a stronger understanding of how to use them to better my initial strategy and how to continue to use them to manage and explain progress has made a huge difference.
Madison,
I’ve also worked for a few small businesses, and noticed this issue. Usually a marketing department and/or marketing budget is not existent within their office/institution. As a marketing major, I find it strange, especially when there are so many free online tools for analytics and data collection.
Hi Madison,
I really liked your post on “how to show growth”. This is something I look for when skimming through blogs to read. Your blog is short and to the point which I liked. I also liked the spacing between your paragraphs with bold font.
Growth is not my specialty at all either, but great job explaining it! I’ve noticed those same issues.
