The New Age of Marketing

402

In this day in age, a company can not survive without adequate social media marketing. Marketing has taken on a whole new meaning and we have social media and mobile technology to thank for it. In this post, I will go through and highlight a few social networks and how they have affected marketing.

Facebook

I feel as if Facebook is the true start of social media as we know it. It was the catalyst to people sharing their lives online. Facebook is the first real place where social media marketing took place. Data is about consumers are often gathered on Facebook. Marketers are able to see what content their target audience is most used to consuming and attempt to market to them in that way.

Instagram

I believe that Instagram is one of the most popular platforms of our generation. A photo is worth a thousand words and Instagram let’s you share this. On this platform, users are able to portray their lives through pictures. As you scroll to through the application to view your friends’ posts, ads are now trickled in to look like they are truly a part of your feed.

YouTube

YouTube is the only social media platform that I feel no one can avoid. From music to tutorials, it is nearly impossible to not use the platform. This is the perfect medium for marketers. Once YouTube began displaying ads before every video, they really provided room for additional marketing to take place. Not only does YouTube have marketing materials displayed before videos, the content provider can also have marketing within the video itself.

Twitter

Twitter is definitely one of the most interactive forms of social media. I also believe that Twitter can sometimes be the most thought provoking form of social. A lot of conversations and debates are started on this social form. This is a way that marketers can take a stance and truly have conversations with their audiences. Many times, consumers will go to Twitter to complain about issues that a company has caused. Though this is the easiest platform for communication between companies, the least amount of true ads are on Twitter.

  1. Darcie,

This is the first time I’ve seen this layout used for this class, and I love it. The use of colors and images made this post easy to break down and read. Further, the information was great. As a blog, the post was very personal and could be perceived as subjective (e.g. “I believe”), but overall, these opinions were relevant and true.

I really enjoyed reading this post!

  2. Giving an overview of all social media platforms was so clever and the layout made the information flow so smoothly! Great job.
